Under the terms of the 1998 Education Act, it is the responsibility of the Board of Management to arrange for the preparation of the school plan, and to ensure that it is regularly reviewed and updated. Accordingly, the Board must ensure that the planning is done.
Most of the work involved will be delegated to the Principal and teaching staff, who will keep the Board informed on progress. It is likely that the Board will wish to be closely consulted on matters relating to its statutory and legal responsibilities and on aspects of the plan that have a significant financial dimension, and it may wish to highlight particular issues as planning priorities.
The Board may participate directly in the planning process through its establishment of or representation on planning teams.
